Liberia Telecommunications Authority delegation visits NCC headquarters

A delegation from the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) has paid a courtesy visit to the headquarters of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in Abuja as part of efforts to strengthen regulatory cooperation in the telecommunications sector.

 

KANO FOCUS the delegation was led by the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the LTA, Hon. Clarence K. Massaquoi, and included the Commissioner with oversight responsibility for Licensing and Regulation, Hon. Ben Fofana.

 

They were received by senior officials of the NCC, including the Executive Secretary of the West Africa Telecommunications Regulators Assembly (WATRA), Engr. Aliyu Yusuf Aboki; Director of Corporate Planning, Strategy and Risk Management at the NCC, Mr. Kelechi Nwankwo; Director of Licensing and Authorisation, Mr. Usman Mamman; and the Head of Public Affairs of the Commission, Mrs. Nnenna Ukoha.

 

The visit, which took place on January 30, 2026, focused on experience-sharing and strengthening collaboration between the two regulatory bodies, particularly in the areas of licensing, regulation and policy implementation.

 

According to information posted on the NCC’s official Facebook account, the engagement provided an opportunity for both organisations to discuss best practices and explore ways of deepening regional cooperation in line with West Africa’s telecommunications development objectives.

KAZOWMA MD pledges to reposition Kano Zoo for tourism

The newly appointed Managing Director of the Kano State Zoological and Wildlife Management Agency (KAZOWMA), Hon. Musayyib Kawu, has pledged to reposition the Kano Zoological Garden to boost tourism and recreational activities in the state.

 

KANO FOCUS reports that Kawu made the pledge in his inaugural address shortly after assuming office, according to a statement issued on Tuesday in Kano by the Public Relations Officer of the zoo, Hauwa Adam.

 

He said the new administration would prioritise the upgrading and renovation of existing infrastructure at the zoo to improve its appeal and functionality.

 

“Our focus will be on rehabilitating facilities, introducing new animal species and improving staff welfare to ensure efficient service delivery,” Kawu said.

 

He added that a comprehensive assessment of the agency’s challenges and operational needs would be carried out and forwarded to the state government with a view to strengthening the zoo’s status as a major tourist destination in Kano State.

 

The managing director also commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his leadership and support, while urging residents of the state to actively participate in the democratic process by obtaining and renewing their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

EFCC arrests Kannywood actress Samha Inuwa over alleged Naira mutilation

The Kano Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested popular Kannywood actress, Samha Inuwa, over alleged mutilation of the Nigerian currency.

KTKANO FOCUS reports that e arrest was carried out on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, following the circulation of a viral video on social media in which the actress was seen using Naira notes to clean mucus from her nose.

The Commission confirmed the development via a post on its official Facebook page, stating that the video prompted swift action by its operatives. According to the EFCC, investigations commenced immediately after the footage went viral, leading to the tracing and subsequent arrest of the suspect.

Inuwa is currently in the custody of the EFCC at its Kano detention facility, where investigations into the incident are ongoing.

The anti-graft agency disclosed that the actress will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The EFCC has repeatedly warned against the abuse and mutilation of the Naira, stressing that such acts constitute an offence under Nigerian law and are punishable accordingly.

Kano Pilgrims Board seeks Immigration Service’s support ahead of 2026 Hajj visa deadline

The Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board has appealed to the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) for maximum cooperation to ensure the timely processing of international passports for intending pilgrims from the state ahead of the 2026 Hajj.

 

KANO FOCUS reports that the Director General of the Board, Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim Matawalle, made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Immigration Service Passport Control Office at Farm Centre, Kano.

 

Matawalle explained that with the deadline for the 2026 Hajj visa scheduled for February 8, 2026, a significant number of intending pilgrims were yet to receive their international passports, stressing that urgent intervention was necessary to prevent them from missing the visa deadline.

 

To address the challenge, he disclosed that the Board plans to introduce a special identification form that would enable Immigration officials to easily identify pilgrims requiring urgent passport processing.

 

Responding, the Deputy Comptroller of Immigration in charge of the Passport Control Office, Farm Centre, Kano, Alhaji Aliyu Hamisu Nguroje, assured the Board of the Service’s commitment to do everything possible to assist the pilgrims in meeting the set target.

 

Nguroje welcomed the initiative to introduce a special identification form, noting that it would strengthen cooperation and promote effective collaboration between both institutions for improved service delivery. He also expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as timely and appropriate.

 

The Director General was accompanied by all directors of the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board during the visit.

 

The engagement underscores ongoing efforts by the state government to ensure a smooth and hitch-free Hajj process for pilgrims from Kano State.
