Kano Govt employs over 600 youth as tax collectors

In its bid to reduce youth unemployment and the same time, reduce restiveness and boost socio-economic development of its citizens, Kano State Government has employed more than 600 youth for the State Internal Revenue Service KIRS to accelerate revenue generation policy for overall socioeconomic development of the State.

KANO FOCUS reports that the State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, stated this on Wednesday at the opening of a 3-day Retreat organised by the National Insurance Commission of Nigeria for the Kano State Technical Committee on the Enforcement of Compulsory Insurances in the State, holding at Rockview Hotel, Abuja.

The Governor, who spoke through the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, added that the move have greatly bolster the collection of additional revenue due to the State from so many sources that were before not being properly harnessed.

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje who commended the National Insurance Commission for organizing the Retreat for the state officials, said government will continue to identity itself with relevant federal governments departments and agencies that have signify their intention to support its economic and social developments projects for the overall progress of its citizens.

The Governor then used the occasion to announce the donation of a befitting house by the State Government at Sheikh Nasir Kabara Estate to serve as the Northwest Regional Office of the National Insurance Commission for all its official undertakings.

He reiterate the commitment of Kano State Government to continue to support National Insurance Commission of Nigeria, describing the Retreat organized for the Technical Committee as a noble cause that will be supported to achieve the set objectives.

Earlier, the National Commissioner for Insurance, Oludare Sunday Thomas expressed his appreciation to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for making it possible for the Retreat to take place, with the setting up of an 18 Man Technical Committee on Enforcement of Compulsory Insurances in the State.

Mr. Sunday Thomas said organizing the Retreat was among his happiest moments since his taking over as the Commissioner for Insurance in the Country.

He then announced the decision of the Commission to provide the Technical Committee with necessary support in the areas of publicity in order to sensitize the public and arouse their interest to imbibe insurance policies especially the Islamic Takaful insurance for their respective business and financial undertakings.

The Commissioner then appeal to the Technical Committee to provide a workable and fashionable initiatives in implementing the compulsory Insurances in Kano and make the State assume its position as enviable in the path of economic greatness.

The Technical Committee on the Implementation of the Compulsory Insurances has the Secretary to the State Government as Chairman.

Other members included the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Commissioners of Finance, Commerce, Housing & Transport. The rest are Managing Director of KAROTA, Abubakar Rimi Market, Kantin Kwari and Singer Markets Management Boards, Special Advisers on Inter+Governmental Affairs, Internally Generated Revenue, Executive Chairman, Kano Internal Revenue Service, Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense, Kano, State Commissioner of Police, while Ibrahim Bawa is its Secretary.

Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited has announced that its ex-depot price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) remains unchanged, reaffirming its commitment to stability in Nigeria’s domestic energy market.

 

In a statement issued by Esan Sunday, Head of Media Relations, Branding and Communication, the company said sustaining the current price reflects its efforts to cushion the broader economy against external shocks. It noted that by absorbing prevailing cost pressures, the refinery is helping to moderate inflationary risks, promote energy affordability, and ensure uninterrupted fuel supply amid ongoing global uncertainties.

 

The company reiterated its dedication to the steady supply of high-quality petroleum products to the Nigerian market, while aligning with national objectives of price stability and energy security.

 

It also urged the public to rely solely on official communications from the refinery for accurate and up-to-date information regarding its operations and pricing.

Tinubu congratulates Garo on appointment as Kano deputy governor

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo on his emergence as the Deputy Governor of Kano State following his swearing-in on Tuesday.

 

KANO FOCUS reports that Garo was sworn in by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf after being nominated to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of former deputy governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam.

 

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described Garo’s appointment as a positive step toward strengthening unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State.

 

The President noted that the 48-year-old politician has held several public offices, including Chairman of Kabo Local Government Area and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs during the administration of former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. He also served as the APC governorship running mate in the 2023 general elections.

 

Tinubu commended Governor Yusuf for the appointment, urging political stakeholders in the state to rally behind the administration to ensure stability and progress.

 

He also called on the new deputy governor to work closely with the governor in delivering effective leadership and accelerating development in Kano State.

 

The President wished Garo success in his new role.
