Dawanau Market Association pledges to stabilize prices of commodities

Mukhtar Yahya Usman
The President of the Dawanau Market Development Association, Alhaji Muttaqa Isa, has committed to ensuring price stability for essential food in Kano.
Kano Focus reports that Mr. Isa made this pledge following his meeting with Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, the Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), at his office.
He emphasized that, as part of the agreement reached during the
meeting, they would put an end to the consistent escalation of essential commodity prices, ensuring that people can access goods at reasonable rates.
Alhaji Muttaqa stated that they would continue selling these commodities at previous rates, resisting the temptation to incessantly raise prices.

Furthermore, he noted that the dealers are currently selling their wares at rates below current company prices, and they intend to maintain these prices until their stocks are depleted.
“We have expressed our determination to collaborate with the commission to reduce the prices of commodities, thereby providing to the people.
“However, we can only achieve this with the current stocks we have on hand. The prices at which we sold our stock in the market do not match the current company prices,” Muttaqa stated.
In response, the Chairman of the Commission Bar. Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado commended the association for their willingness to contribute by lowering the prices of their commodities.
Rimingado pledged to inform Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf about the outcomes of the meeting with the traders.
The association’s pledge followed shortly after the commission’s operatives, led by the Chairman, sealed approximately ten warehouses containing food supplies at the Dawanau International Grains Market.
This action was taken as part of efforts to combat hoarding and the incessant rise in food prices within the state.
