Tinubu’s Ally Baffa Babba Dan Agundi Accused of Leading Thugs for Destructions in Kano

Concerned citizens in Kano have accused Baffa Babba Dan Agundi, a prominent ally of President Bola Tinubu and a staunch supporter of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, of leading a group of thugs to disrupt a peaceful protest in the city on Thursdsy 1st August, 2024.
Dan’agundi was the Director in charge of Tunibu’s support groups in northwest and a former state assembly member.
You may recalled that Baffa Babba Dan’agundi a long with his elder brother, Aminu Babba Dan’agundi (who was deposed twice out of his titles of Sarkin Dawaki Mai Tuta and Sarkin Dawaki Babba respectively) were arrested in 2007 in relation to the death of Late Hajiya Sa’adatu Rimi, the wife of first civilian Governor of Kano State Late Alhaji Abubakar Rimi.
The duo were later discharged by the court, but the murder case of Late Saadatu Rimi remained inconclusive till date as her two brothers, Sambo and Bamanga have resigned to fate for securing justice for thier beloved sister.
The protesters had gathered to voice their grievances against the government, but the demonstration took a violent turn when Dan Agundi, a public servant, allegedly arrived with a group of hoodlums.
Witnesses claim that the protesters’ peaceful assembly was abruptly interrupted by the group, leading to chaos and violence.
The concerned citizens have also criticized the Kano Commissioner of Police, accusing him of granting Dan Agundi permission to lead the protesters despite being aware that the demonstration was directed against the federal government.
This decision has raised questions about the impartiality and judgment of the police in handling public demonstrations.
Earlier, Dan Agundi was quoted saying that he was leading the protesters to the palace of Emir Aminu Bayero to lodge a complaint, which they hoped would be forwarded to President Tinubu.
He reportedly assured the crowd that the protest would proceed regardless of the weather, emphasizing their determination to make their voices heard.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing Dan Agundi among the protesters, surrounded by the alleged hoodlums, who disrupted the peaceful demonstration.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation from concerned citizens, who argue that the actions of Dan Agundi and his group undermined the rights of the protesters to express their opinions peacefully.
As the situation develops, the public is calling for a thorough investigation into the events that transpired and for those responsible for the violence to be held accountable.
The involvement of a public servant in such actions has further fueled the controversy, raising concerns about the integrity of the government and its representatives.
Baffa Babba Dan’agundi, who was recently appointed as the CEO of a Federal Agency ( National Productivity Centre) was sighted in a viral video making utterances and his plans to create chaos in Kano.
The Kano concerned citizens through thier Spokesman Comrade Ghali Aliyu Bala Dantata, called on the Amnesty International and other human right organizations to file for the prosecution of Baffa Dan’agundi and charge him culpable homiside.

The All Progressives Congress has received a fresh wave of prominent politicians from opposition parties in Kano State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
KANO FOCUS reports that the new members include former elected officials, party leaders and other political stakeholders who have declared support for President Bola Tinubu and Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the governor’s spokesman and Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
Among those listed as joining the APC are Senator Rufa’i Sani Hanga, former Kano State Governor and Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya, former PDP Deputy Governorship Candidate Yusuf Bello Dambatta, former NDC Deputy Chairman Aliyu Datti Yako and former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Isyaku Ali Danja.
The list also includes Senator Mas’ud El-Jibrin Doguwa, former Kano State NNPP Chairman Abdullahi Zubairu Imam Abiya, former NNPP senatorial candidate Senator Abdulmajid Dauda Dandawaki and former Commissioner and Special Adviser Senator Baraka Sani.
Others are former Ungogo Local Government Chairman Muhammad Badaru Umar, former NDC Kano State Woman Leader Amina Sirajo, former NDC Assistant Woman Leader Hauwa’u Turaki and former NDC Chairman, Gezawa, Gambo Hamza.
Also listed are former NDC Chairman, Kura, Handanu Umar; former NDC Director-General Saminu Shehu Kura; former NDC Youth Leader Danladi Musa Garko; former NDC Auditor Sahabi Garba; former Gwale Local Government Chairman Sani Jibrin Dan Zara; and former Makoda Local Government Chairman Hassan Abba Makoda.
According to the statement, the influx of the politicians is expected to strengthen the APC’s political structure and grassroots mobilisation across the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
The defectors are expected to join the APC’s campaign for the re-election of President Tinubu and Governor Yusuf.
The party welcomed the new members, describing their decision to join the APC as a significant boost to efforts to consolidate political unity and expand its support base across Kano.
The APC leadership also urged its existing members and supporters to remain united and accommodate the new entrants as the party intensifies preparations for the 2027 general elections.

A concerned citizens’ group in Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State has called on political aspirants and elected representatives in Rogo, Karaye/Rogo Federal Constituency and Kano South Senatorial District to prioritise issue-based campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections.
KANO FOCUS reports that the group, led by a good governance advocate, Comrade Sani Shuaibu Rogo, said political campaigns should shift from sentiment and personality-driven politics to concrete plans, accountability and measurable development goals.
In a statement issued on Friday, Comrade Rogo said issue-based campaigns should focus on critical challenges affecting residents, including education, healthcare, peace and security, youth employment, infrastructure, water supply and human capital development.
He urged community-based and faith-based organisations, traditional and religious leaders, retired civil servants, youth and women groups, business communities and workers to actively engage political aspirants and elected representatives by demanding clear answers to issues affecting their communities.
On security, the group asked aspirants to explain their plans for addressing community insecurity, youth restiveness, drug abuse and the increasing involvement of young people in social vices.
It also called for specific strategies to tackle rural banditry in communities including Beli, Falgore, Gwangwan, Barbaje, Jajaye and Zarewa in Rogo, as well as other security flashpoints in Karaye.
The group further challenged political aspirants to explain how they would collaborate with the Kano State Government, security agencies and community vigilantes to strengthen peace and security.
On socio-economic development, Mr Rogo urged aspirants to present specific policies, timelines and funding sources for addressing the cultural, religious, political and economic challenges confronting the constituencies.
He also called on prospective representatives to commit to regular town hall meetings and community dialogues to promote participatory governance and ensure that residents have a voice in decisions affecting them.
On education, the group asked aspirants to outline plans for reducing the number of out-of-school children and addressing the welfare, integration and infrastructure needs of the Tsangaya education system.
It also raised concerns over access to quality healthcare and maternal health services in Rogo and Karaye, urging political leaders to provide clear strategies for improving healthcare delivery at the grassroots.
The group identified agriculture and irrigation as another major area requiring attention, citing water sources including Dogol, Kwakwa, Balanbalamai, Tukurwa and Challawa Gorge Dam, which it said remained underutilised.
It therefore challenged aspirants to explain how they would rehabilitate and develop such water sources to support irrigation and dry-season farming.
On youth empowerment, the group asked candidates to provide concrete plans for unemployed youths, persons with special needs, victims of drug abuse and young people who had completed their education but lacked employment opportunities.
It also urged political leaders to address the underutilisation of skills acquisition centres established by the previous administration in Rogo and Karaye.
The group said improved road networks, agricultural extension services, education, healthcare, potable water and sanitation should also form part of the development priorities for the constituencies.
Comrade Rogo appealed to aspirants, contenders and incumbent office holders to embrace issue-based campaigns and provide voters with realistic and measurable commitments.
He also called on the Kano State Government, under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, to support citizens’ groups through the Kano First Agenda by institutionalising town hall meetings and community scorecards.
“True democratic dividends come when citizens ask the right questions, and leaders give the right answers with action,” he said.
Comrade Rogo said the current political realignment in Kano South provided an opportunity for residents to demand unity of purpose, transparency and effective service delivery.
He urged voters to move away from personality-driven politics and demand “quality representation” based on competence, accountability and demonstrable commitment to the development of their communities.

The Kano State Government has inaugurated a special committee to strengthen efforts to contain diphtheria and prevent further spread of the disease across the state.
KANO FOCUS reports that the Commissioner for Health, Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, inaugurated the Special Committee on Diphtheria Outbreak Response on Friday, saying the initiative was aimed at ensuring a stronger and coordinated response to the outbreak.
In a statement issued by Nabilusi Abubakar Ahmad, Public Relations Officer, Kano State Ministry of Health, Dr Yusuf said diphtheria was a highly contagious disease capable of spreading rapidly within communities, noting that it had remained a public health concern in Kano since December 2022.
He stressed the need for urgent and collective action to protect communities and save lives, identifying vaccination and early medical attention as critical measures in controlling the disease.
The commissioner urged parents and caregivers to ensure that all eligible children received the required vaccinations.
He also advised residents to immediately take anyone suspected of having diphtheria to the nearest health facility for proper medical attention.
According to him, members of the committee were selected based on their experience and competence and are expected to strengthen early reporting of suspected cases, surveillance, case registration, vaccination in areas with low coverage, as well as follow-up and referral of suspected patients for treatment.
Dr Yusuf said the committee comprises representatives of the state government, local government councils and emirate councils to ensure a coordinated response and effective action at the community level.
He charged the members to demonstrate commitment and dedication in discharging their responsibilities, stressing that their collective efforts would be critical to reducing the spread of diphtheria and protecting residents of the state.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the committee and Director-General of the Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC), Professor Muhammad Adamu Abbas, assured the commissioner that the committee would work diligently to achieve its mandate.
Prof Abbas said the committee would collaborate with relevant stakeholders to strengthen surveillance, vaccination and outbreak-response activities across Kano State.
The inauguration, the ministry said, underscores the state government’s commitment to protecting the health of its citizens and ensuring timely and effective responses to disease outbreaks.
