The Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Abdullahi Ibrahim Waiya, has disclosed that over 900 projects are currently under construction across the state under the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

KANO FOCUS reports that Comrade Waiya made the disclosure while interacting with members of the Forum of State Directors of Public Enlightenment during a courtesy visit to his office.

The commissioner charged the directors to leverage their positions, wealth of experience and professional skills to effectively publicise the activities and achievements of the state government to the wider public. He noted that many residents were still unaware of the level of progress recorded so far, making effective information dissemination imperative.

According to him, synergy between the Ministry of Information and public enlightenment officers across Ministries, Departments and Agencies is critical to ensuring that government activities are properly communicated, especially as many MDAs, apart from the Ministries of Works and Health, have remained largely silent on ongoing projects.

Comrade Waiya reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with the directors, stressing that 2026 is a critical year as it precedes general elections and coincides with the implementation of one of the largest budgets in the state’s history. He urged the officers, whom he described as the image-makers of their respective MDAs, to uphold professionalism and diligently observe their responsibilities.

The commissioner expressed delight over the formation of the forum and underscored the need to deepen collaboration to achieve shared goals and objectives. He also described the directors as experts in information dissemination and encouraged them to embrace digital skills and computer literacy to remain relevant in the evolving media landscape.

Earlier, the Interim Chairman of the Forum, Comrade Isma’il Gwammaja, commended the commissioner for warmly receiving the delegation and praised his efforts at revitalising the ministry within a short period.

Gwammaja noted that the commissioner’s contributions would remain a notable part of the ministry’s history, describing him as one of the most visible and impactful commissioners in the current state cabinet.

He urged Comrade Waiya to organise capacity-building workshops for directors of public enlightenment and facilitate their registration with relevant professional bodies to enhance their competence and professional growth.

The visit featured an interactive session, including questions and answers, aimed at strengthening collaboration between the ministry and public enlightenment officers across the state.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo on his emergence as the Deputy Governor of Kano State following his swearing-in on Tuesday.

KANO FOCUS reports that Garo was sworn in by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf after being nominated to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of former deputy governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described Garo’s appointment as a positive step toward strengthening unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State.

The President noted that the 48-year-old politician has held several public offices, including Chairman of Kabo Local Government Area and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs during the administration of former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. He also served as the APC governorship running mate in the 2023 general elections.

Tinubu commended Governor Yusuf for the appointment, urging political stakeholders in the state to rally behind the administration to ensure stability and progress.

Ganduje acknowledges Sanusi II as Emir of Kano, 6 years after dethroning him

A dramatic political moment unfolded in Kano on Tuesday as former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje publicly acknowledged Muhammad Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano and Chairman of the Kano State Council of Emirs.

KANO FOCUS reports that the unexpected gesture occurred during the swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed Deputy Governor, Murtala Sule Garo, at Government House, Kano—an event attended by top political leaders and traditional rulers.

While delivering his goodwill message, Ganduje addressed Sanusi by his full royal title, drawing immediate attention from dignitaries at the ceremony. The audience responded with loud applause when he greeted the Emir and recognised his position as head of the Kano Emirate Council.

The development is particularly significant given the long-standing rift between the two figures. Sanusi was removed from the throne during Ganduje’s administration, a decision that sparked widespread political and legal controversy at the time.

However, the political landscape shifted following the emergence of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, under whose administration Sanusi was reinstated as Emir of Kano.

Observers say Ganduje’s public acknowledgment signals a possible easing of tensions and may point to broader efforts at reconciliation within Kano’s political and traditional institutions.

The moment has since been described by analysts as a “twist of fate” in Kano politics, where former rivalries appear to be giving way to cautious gestures of respect among key actors.
