NCC board inspects Digital Bridge Institute in Lagos

Members of the Board and Management of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) have undertaken an inspection tour of the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI), Oshodi, Lagos, as part of efforts to assess training facilities and capacity-building programmes in the telecommunications sector.
KANO FOCUS reports that those on the inspection tour included the Chairman of the NCC Board, Chief Idris Olorunnimbe; the Executive Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Dr. Aminu Maida; Board members Princess Oforitsenere Emiko, Engr. Ikechukwu Ugwuegede and Hon. Chris Okorie; as well as the Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management, Ms. Rimini Makama.
Also present was the Head of the Digital Bridge Institute, Lagos Campus, Mr. Akin Ogunlade, who guided the delegation around the institute’s facilities.
The inspection was aimed at evaluating the state of infrastructure and training programmes at the institute, which serves as the training arm of the NCC for developing skilled manpower in the nation’s telecommunications industry.
In a statement sent to KANO FOCUS on Monday, the Commission said the visit underscored the NCC Board’s commitment to strengthening institutional capacity and ensuring that the Digital Bridge Institute remains well-positioned to support the growth and sustainability of Nigeria’s digital economy.

KAZOWMA MD pledges to reposition Kano Zoo for tourism

The newly appointed Managing Director of the Kano State Zoological and Wildlife Management Agency (KAZOWMA), Hon. Musayyib Kawu, has pledged to reposition the Kano Zoological Garden to boost tourism and recreational activities in the state.
KANO FOCUS reports that Kawu made the pledge in his inaugural address shortly after assuming office, according to a statement issued on Tuesday in Kano by the Public Relations Officer of the zoo, Hauwa Adam.
He said the new administration would prioritise the upgrading and renovation of existing infrastructure at the zoo to improve its appeal and functionality.
“Our focus will be on rehabilitating facilities, introducing new animal species and improving staff welfare to ensure efficient service delivery,” Kawu said.
He added that a comprehensive assessment of the agency’s challenges and operational needs would be carried out and forwarded to the state government with a view to strengthening the zoo’s status as a major tourist destination in Kano State.
The managing director also commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his leadership and support, while urging residents of the state to actively participate in the democratic process by obtaining and renewing their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

EFCC arrests Kannywood actress Samha Inuwa over alleged Naira mutilation

The Kano Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested popular Kannywood actress, Samha Inuwa, over alleged mutilation of the Nigerian currency.
KTKANO FOCUS reports that e arrest was carried out on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, following the circulation of a viral video on social media in which the actress was seen using Naira notes to clean mucus from her nose.
The Commission confirmed the development via a post on its official Facebook page, stating that the video prompted swift action by its operatives. According to the EFCC, investigations commenced immediately after the footage went viral, leading to the tracing and subsequent arrest of the suspect.
Inuwa is currently in the custody of the EFCC at its Kano detention facility, where investigations into the incident are ongoing.
The anti-graft agency disclosed that the actress will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The EFCC has repeatedly warned against the abuse and mutilation of the Naira, stressing that such acts constitute an offence under Nigerian law and are punishable accordingly.

Liberia Telecommunications Authority delegation visits NCC headquarters

A delegation from the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) has paid a courtesy visit to the headquarters of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in Abuja as part of efforts to strengthen regulatory cooperation in the telecommunications sector.
KANO FOCUS the delegation was led by the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the LTA, Hon. Clarence K. Massaquoi, and included the Commissioner with oversight responsibility for Licensing and Regulation, Hon. Ben Fofana.
They were received by senior officials of the NCC, including the Executive Secretary of the West Africa Telecommunications Regulators Assembly (WATRA), Engr. Aliyu Yusuf Aboki; Director of Corporate Planning, Strategy and Risk Management at the NCC, Mr. Kelechi Nwankwo; Director of Licensing and Authorisation, Mr. Usman Mamman; and the Head of Public Affairs of the Commission, Mrs. Nnenna Ukoha.
The visit, which took place on January 30, 2026, focused on experience-sharing and strengthening collaboration between the two regulatory bodies, particularly in the areas of licensing, regulation and policy implementation.
According to information posted on the NCC’s official Facebook account, the engagement provided an opportunity for both organisations to discuss best practices and explore ways of deepening regional cooperation in line with West Africa’s telecommunications development objectives.
