Tiga 10 megawatts power station ready in 6 weeks – Ganduje

Kano state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on Sunday said the multi million Naira Tiga 10 Megawatts Hydro Power Station in Kano is completed and would be commissioned in 6 week time.
KANO FOCUS reports that this was contained in a statement issued by Abba Anwar, the Chief Press Secretary to Ganduje.
Anwar said the multi million Naira power station its currently on pre-commissioning test.
The Chief Press Secretary in the statement explained that Governor Ganduje was satisfied with the progress of the work during his inspection visit to Tiga Power Plant and Tamburawa Water Treatment Plant, Saturday, pointing out that he also commended the efforts of state independent power company, KHEDCO, contractors and other stakeholders.

Anwar stated that “As it was designed from the beginning of the process, the 10 megawatts generated from Tiga station, will be use to take care of Tamburawa Water Treatment Plant and metropolitan street lights. “
The statement noted that “With this, our water issue will be dealt with decisively. So also our street lights issues will soon become history. While this project will be commissioned on the 29th of January, 2023, we are still on similar project in Challawa Godge Dam, where we are generating 6 Megawatts.”
He quoted his principal to have said “For the generation and distribution of energy, the state government established an independent power company, as law stipulates. We came up with Kano Hydro and Energy Development Company (KHEDCO). A limited liability company.”
Anwar revealed in the statement that “And all the two needed licences for operations were secured since June 2021 from National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). Licences for power generation and distribution”.
“In the next few weeks, the power generated from Tiga will be evacuated to Tamburawa Water Treatment Plant. As all evacuation lines from Tiga to Tamburawa are fully completed.
“The power will be generating at 33KV and transmitting at 33KV. Power generated from Tiga will be use for our Tamburawa Water Treatment Plant and also for our Street lights. Which will, at the same time help in tightening the security system of the state.
“What remains now is the final certification from Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) and Automation, which is also ongoing and will be done within the next five days, as assured by contractors.”
Governor Ganduje assured all that he would do all his best to see that he leaves indelible legacies in all spheres of human endeavors before his second tenure ends.
Unfulfilled Promise
However, It will be recalled that the Tiga and Challawa independent power plants, which were designed to collectively generate about 35 mega watts of electricity, were initiated by former governor Rabiu Kwankwaso in 2013 at the cost of N14 billion.
KANO FOCUS had in 2019 reported Ganduje saying he will complete the project in three months.
It will be recalled that Ganduje, during a speech to celebrate the 2018 Democracy Day, had promised to complete the project in October of the same year.
But five years after, that promise is yet to be redeemed.

A former Governor of Kano State Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has commended the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, for ordering a fresh investigation into the disappearance of activist and lecturer Abubakar Idris Dadiyata.
KANO FOCUS reports that Kwankwaso made the remarks in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Saturday following recent testimony by a former aide to an ex-state governor, who allegedly claimed that police officers were responsible for Dadiyata’s disappearance in Kaduna.
Dadiyata, a lecturer and social media commentator, was abducted in 2019, and his whereabouts have remained unknown since then.
According to Kwankwaso, he and his associates have consistently advocated for a thorough investigation into the incident and for those responsible to be brought to justice.
He described the Inspector-General’s directive for a comprehensive investigation as a “decisive and long-overdue action,” expressing hope that the process would uncover the truth behind the disappearance.
The former governor also urged police authorities to place individuals named in the allegations under close surveillance to prevent interference with the investigation.
Kwankwaso further called on the government to ensure that Dadiyata, if found alive, and his family receive adequate compensation for the trauma and hardship they have endured over the years.
He commended members of the public for sustaining advocacy efforts on the case and also praised Abba Hikima Fagge for what he described as his important role in the latest developments surrounding the investigation.
Kwankwaso expressed optimism that the renewed probe would ultimately deliver truth and justice in the case.

The company reiterated its dedication to the steady supply of high-quality petroleum products to the Nigerian market, while aligning with national objectives of price stability and energy security.
It also urged the public to rely solely on official communications from the refinery for accurate and up-to-date information regarding its operations and pricing.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo on his emergence as the Deputy Governor of Kano State following his swearing-in on Tuesday.
KANO FOCUS reports that Garo was sworn in by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf after being nominated to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of former deputy governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described Garo’s appointment as a positive step toward strengthening unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State.
The President noted that the 48-year-old politician has held several public offices, including Chairman of Kabo Local Government Area and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs during the administration of former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. He also served as the APC governorship running mate in the 2023 general elections.
Tinubu commended Governor Yusuf for the appointment, urging political stakeholders in the state to rally behind the administration to ensure stability and progress.
He also called on the new deputy governor to work closely with the governor in delivering effective leadership and accelerating development in Kano State.
The President wished Garo success in his new role.
