Kano Police command has arrested Dala Local Government Vice Chairman, Ishaq Tanko Gambaga for  leading the demolition of shops at Kofar Ruwa market.

KANO TODAY gathered that the shop owners reported Mr Gambaga to the police station, accusing him of spearheading the demolition of their shops, which they claimed were built legally.

The shop owners said they spent huge amount of money in building the shops, but  Mr Gambaga led their demolition, promoting the traders to report him to Police headquarters in order to seek for justice.

Reacting to the accusations, Mr Gambaga confessed that he led the demolition of shops, but denied being arrested by the Police, saying he was invited to answer some questions over the demolition.

He said he spearheaded the demolition in order to bring sanity and avoid conflicts among traders in the market, stressing that  his action was in order.

KANO TODAY recalls that traders at the market had kicked against the overnight building of new shops in front of their stalls.

This newspaper also recalled that Gambaga once announced the immediate revocation of all such plots allocated by the administration of former chairman, Ibrahim Sulaiman Dan-Isile.

He then directed all affected individuals to report to the local government secretariat with genuine copies of their allocation letter as well as other relevant documents for verification.

The acting chairman also announced the temporary suspension of all revenue collection in the market.
