How lion escaped cage in Kano zoo

A lion has escaped from its cage at the Kano Zoological garden along Zoo road area on Saturday.
Kano Focus reports that the beast attacked and devoured many goats in their barn.
It was learnt that the lion which is said to be huge, refused to enter its cage after it was returned along with 14 other animals from an agricultural show held in Nasarawa state.
According to Hadiyatullah Garba, spokesperson of the Kano Zoological garden, 14 wild animal specie were taken to the agric show “to add more colour to the occasion”.
“Immediately after the event was over Kano zoo participating staffs together with wild species returned to the zoo safely and 13 animals were restored to their cages,” Mr Garba said in a statement.
“However, the lion resisted efforts to make it move into its cage, a situation that threatened the internal rescue workers,” he added.
He said the animal was still lurking around bushes in the garden.
“All measures have been Put in place by internal security guards and a strong team of rescue workers to ensure that the lion is captured alive and restored safely,” Mr Garba said.
Kano Focus understands that a team of armed police officers have been dispatched to assist the zoo staff to rein in the beast.
Spokesman of the Kano Police Command Abdullahi Haruna confirmed the lion’s escape from cage, adding however that the animal was still within the zoo premises.
He said efforts were being made by experts to capture the lion.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo on his emergence as the Deputy Governor of Kano State following his swearing-in on Tuesday.
KANO FOCUS reports that Garo was sworn in by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf after being nominated to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of former deputy governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described Garo’s appointment as a positive step toward strengthening unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State.
The President noted that the 48-year-old politician has held several public offices, including Chairman of Kabo Local Government Area and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs during the administration of former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. He also served as the APC governorship running mate in the 2023 general elections.
Tinubu commended Governor Yusuf for the appointment, urging political stakeholders in the state to rally behind the administration to ensure stability and progress.
He also called on the new deputy governor to work closely with the governor in delivering effective leadership and accelerating development in Kano State.
The President wished Garo success in his new role.

A dramatic political moment unfolded in Kano on Tuesday as former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje publicly acknowledged Muhammad Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano and Chairman of the Kano State Council of Emirs.
KANO FOCUS reports that the unexpected gesture occurred during the swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed Deputy Governor, Murtala Sule Garo, at Government House, Kano—an event attended by top political leaders and traditional rulers.
