Gunmen kill vigilante, abduct nursing mother, son in Kano

Suspected bandits have shot dead a local vigilante after abducting a mother and her baby child at Falgore town, Rogo local government area of Kano state.

Kano Focus reports that the chairman of Rogo local government area Malami Rogo said the gunmen have attacked the village on Sunday midnight, where they scared the residents with gunshots.

He added that the gunmen have stormed the residence of one Yusuf Maitaki Falgore where they abducted a nursing mother and her baby child.

He said the late security vigilante has been buried according to Islamic rites.

Mr Rogo told Kano Focus that Falgore is a border town between Kano and Katsina States.

The police spokesperson in Kano Abdullahi Kiyawa confirmed the tragic incident.

He told Kano Focus that the police have received a security report on around 1:30 am from Falgore town that some criminals have abducted a forty year old nursing mother.

Mr Kiyawa added that Shortly after, the police mobilized a team of policeman and local vigilante to pursue the criminals.

He said it was in the course of trailing the kidnappers, they one of the security vigilante, upon reaching hospital a doctor on duty pronounced him dead.

The police spokesperson revealed that the Commissioner of police have since mobilised the team of operation puff adder to rescue the abducted woman and arrest the kidnappers.

APC wins all chairmanship, councillorship seats in Kano

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won All the 44 local government chairmanship and  484 councillorship seats in Kano state,with total votes of 2, 350, 577 votes.

Kano Focus reports that the Chairman Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC)  Garba Ibrahim Sheka stated this while announcing the results of the elections in Kano on Sunday.

He said even though some minor errors were encountered during the election process, the commission was able to conduct the election successfully .

He commended the efforts of all security agencies during the conduct of the local government poll.

He applauded the commitment of the Kano state government in the successful conduct of the election.

He also appreciated the people of Kano state for their peaceful conduct.

Kano Judiciary constitutes election tribunals

The Chief Judge of kano state Justice Nura Sagir Umar has instituted two local government election tribunals as enshrined under section 36 (1) of kano state Local Government Electoral Law 2002.

A statement issued by spokesperson of Kano Judiciary Baba Jibo Ibrahim said the tribunals will be chaired by Chief Magistrates Hauwa Lawan Umar and Muhammad M. Jibrin

The statement added that the tribunals will hear and determine cases concerning the elections.

Kano High Court acquits 2 suspected armed robbers detained for 13 years

A Kano State High Court has disçharged and acquitted two suspected armed robbers accused of killing their victim, Bako Zangina, an offense punishable by death.

Kano Focus reports that Justice Suleman Namalam held that though the court has no doubt that the accused are criminals having been convicted previously, the prosecution has failed to estabilish the ingredient of the offence beyond reasonable doubt in the instant case.

The accused Isyaku Umar otherwise known as ‘Small’ and Ibrahim Suleiman were arraigned in court on three counts charges of conspiracy,attempted armed robbery and culpable homicide punishable by death.

The two accused have been in custody since October 2007 for the alleged killing of Bako Zangina.

The court held that while the prosecution established the death of the victim, it failed to establish three ingredients of offense linking the identity of the accused to the crime thereby creating doubt.

The trial judge held that failure of the prosecution to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt left the court with no option than to discharge and acquitt the two accused.

The two accused persons have been in detention for over 13 years and have previously been tried and convicted for armed robbery.

Kano wins national award in the fight against TB, leprosy

Kano State Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Program has won the twin National Tuberculosis and Leprosy awards for the year 2020.

Kano Focus reports that, the awards were announced by the Nigeria National TB, Leprosy and Buruli Ulcer Control program during the Annual Review meeting held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State Capital.

Kano get the award as the state with highest consistent quarterly TB case notification for 2020 and the highest TB testing laboratory using GeneXpert Machine.

This is the first time the state have won such National TB and Leprosy Awards.
