Kano spends N2. 6b to register 119,903 candidates for NECO, NBAIS exams

Kano State Government has completed arrangements to register 119,903 students who sat for the 2024 NECO and NBAIS Examination across the 44 Local Government of the state.
KANO FOCUS reports tha this was made known today Thursday by the state Commissioner of Education Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa while addressing Newsmen in his office.
Umar Haruna disclosed that earlier, a proposal was made to the Governor on 8 credits (including mathematics and English) condition for a student to pass the qualifying examination which was later rejected by the Governor and opted to pay for any student that obtained 4 credits in any course.
“By this development, about 109,891 students representing 83% who sat for KERD examination would be sponsored by the government while 10,012 students representing 97.24% who sat for the NBAIS examination would be sponsored by the government.
” A total cost of N2,664,856,750 ( Two Billion, Six Hundred and Sixty Four Million, Eight Hundred and Fifty Six Thousand, Seven Hundred and fifty Naira) would be spent by government on NECO whereby N248,826,000 (Two Hundred and Fourty Eight Million, Eight Hundred and Twenty Six Thousand Naira would be spent on NBAIS examination respectively ” said Doguwa.
Doguwa explained that for both the students who sat for NECO and NBAIS examination, Kano State Government would pay the sum of N2,910,652,700 ( Two Billion, Nine Hundred and Ten Million, Six Hundred and Fifty Two Thousands, Seven Hundred Naira ) which he said would enable most of the students in the state who can not afford paying to pass the examinations.
He explained that when the present administration of Abba Kabir Yusuf came in, there was a system by the previous government of sponsoring candidates with 6 credits including Mathematics and English and that represented only 34% of students who sat for NECO and 20% of students who sat for NBAIS examination in 2022.
The Commissioner added “in our effort to ensure that our students got admission to higher institutions, the administration of Abba Kabir Yusuf had paid NECO and NBAIS for the 2021, 2022 and 2023 registration fees inherited from the previous government.”
He called on the people in the state to continue to support the present administration in it’s effort to address all challenges surrounding the education sector.

Cameroon telecom regulator visits NCC for benchmarking exercise

The Director General of the Telecommunications Regulatory Board (ART) of the Republic of Cameroon, Philemon Zoo Zame, on Wednesday visited the headquarters of the [Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in Abuja for a benchmarking exercise aimed at strengthening regulatory collaboration and knowledge sharing between both countries.
KANO FOCUS reports that during the visit, the Cameroonian telecom regulator met with the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NCC, Aminu Maida.
A statement issued by Ayiabari A. Kigbara, Manager, Media Relations, Public Affairs Department of the NCC, said the engagement focused on exchanging ideas and best practices in telecommunications regulation, with emphasis on enhancing efficiency and development within the sector.

Dangote Refinery maintains ex-depot price of PMS

Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited has announced that its ex-depot price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) remains unchanged, reaffirming its commitment to stability in Nigeria’s domestic energy market.

Tinubu congratulates Garo on appointment as Kano deputy governor

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo on his emergence as the Deputy Governor of Kano State following his swearing-in on Tuesday.
KANO FOCUS reports that Garo was sworn in by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf after being nominated to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of former deputy governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described Garo’s appointment as a positive step toward strengthening unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State.
The President noted that the 48-year-old politician has held several public offices, including Chairman of Kabo Local Government Area and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs during the administration of former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. He also served as the APC governorship running mate in the 2023 general elections.
Tinubu commended Governor Yusuf for the appointment, urging political stakeholders in the state to rally behind the administration to ensure stability and progress.
He also called on the new deputy governor to work closely with the governor in delivering effective leadership and accelerating development in Kano State.
The President wished Garo success in his new role.
