Kano AGILE holds interactive meeting with 300 teachers on digital literacy

In a bid to revolutionize digital education in Kano State, the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment AGILE Project has commenced a 3-day interactive training for digital literacy teachers.

 

KANO FOCUS reports that the program was designed to equip teachers with the necessary skills to seamlessly integrate technology into their teaching practices.

The training, which brings together teachers from various schools, aims to address the challenges of digital education and remote learning.

 

In his opening remarks, the Kano AGILE Coordinator, Malam Mujtapa Aminu, emphasized the importance of the training, stating that it will enable teachers to assess the progress of digital literacy implementation.

He hinted that participants will identify barriers to remote learning adoption, and explore innovative solutions to enhance the teaching and learning experience.

 

The Project Coordinator maintained that, through interactive sessions, group discussions, and hands-on activities, participants will engage in knowledge-sharing and problem-solving exercises to enhance their effectiveness in the classroom.

 

In his remarks the component lead digital iteracy and remote learning Malam Ahmad Jibril said the 300 teachers were selected from 100 implementing schools.

“By empowering digital literacy teachers, AGILE is ensuring that students, especially girls, can continue learning regardless of physical or socioeconomic barriers.

 

“At the end of the 3-day training, participants are expected to leave with improved skills, practical solutions, and a stronger support network to advance digital literacy in Kano State, he said.

 

Some of the participants expressed enthusiasm about the training.

 

Malama Fauziyya Muhammad Sani from Mairo Tijjani Girls Science and Technical College commended the hands-on approach.

She urged AGILE to provide the necessary equipment and computers to enable teachers to put their newfound knowledge into practice.

 

Malam Sulaiman Magaji from Government Girls Arabic School Dambatta noted that the training will enrich their ICT knowledge, but highlighted the challenges they face due to a lack of equipment and computer teachers.

Salary Fraud: Governor

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has suspended with immediate effect the Acting Head of Service and Permanent Secretary, Establishment, Salisu Mustapha, over alleged salary deductions and non-payment of some civil servants’ salaries.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, it was confirmed that Salisu Mustapha has also been directed to step aside as Permanent Secretary, Establishment, under the Office of the Head of Service, to allow for an unhindered investigation.

To ensure administrative continuity, the governor has approved the appointment of Malam Umar Muhammad Jalo, the Permanent Secretary, REPA, as the new Acting Head of Service, pending the outcome of the ongoing probe.

Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his zero-tolerance stance on financial malpractice, warning that anyone found guilty will face severe consequences.

The Abdulkadir Abdussalam-led investigative committee, inaugurated today, has been given seven days to uncover the root of the irregularities and submit its findings.

Salisu Mustapha was appointed Acting Head of Service earlier this month following the medical leave granted to the substantive Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, who is currently receiving treatment in India.

Stakeholders commence validation of revised 2025 Kano Education Law

Stakeholders have commenced two day engagement with Kano State House of Assembly to validate the revised 2025 Kano Education Law. 

 

Speaking at the occasion, the Speaker of Kano State House of Assembly Jibril Ismai Falgore pledged to ensure speedy passage of the bill into law, as soon as as the legislative chamber receive the Bill from the executive arm of government.

 

The Speaker represented by his deputy Alhaji Muhammad Bello Butu-Butu said Kano Assembly remains steadfast In its commitment to effective synergy with all relevant institutions to the strengthening of the education law and practices in Kano state.

 

He Commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for prioritising education sector evident is the allocation of the sector in 2025 appropriation, as well as his support in institutionalising best practices in governance.

 

In his remarks the commissioner of education Dr Gwani Ali Haruna Makoda recalled that the draft bill has undergone several processes and scrutiny at different levels of legal drafting.

 

He charged participants to approach the document with an eagle eye while scrutining it’s content, sorting out grey areas that require amendments.

 

Earlier the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education Alhaji Bashir Baffa said the meeting was to assess the proposed draft bill, with a view to ensure that its relevance and effectiveness aligns with current educational needs and best practices.

 

Other objectives according to the Permanent Secretary include mapping strategies to ensure speedy passage of the amended Kano Education Law 2024, through executives and legislature engagement, as well as recommendations on next step.

 

In their goodwill messages Kano State Permanent Secretary ministry of Justice Barrister Mustapha, state team leader PLANE project Nigeria, Alhaji Umar Lawan, Chairman House Committee on Education Alhaji Sulaiman Mukhtar Madobi, and Co-Chairperson of Kano State Accountability Forum on Education K-SAFE Dr Auwalu Halilu described the review as timely.

 

It would be recalled that the Kano State Government had in June, 2024 commences the review of “Education Law 1964” as part of effort to overhaul education sector in the state.

BUK distributes 147 bicycles to junior staff

In a bid to ease transportation challenges for junior staff, the Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, on Wednesday distributed the second batch of bicycles under the university’s welfare initiative.

 

KANO FOCUS reports that during the distribution ceremony, Professor Abbas, assisted by the Chairman of the Bicycle Loan Committee, Professor Mahmoud Umar Sani, and other committee members, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to staff welfare. He noted that the initiative aims to provide affordable and sustainable mobility options for staff, enhancing their efficiency at work.

 

Highlighting the success of the first batch, Professor Abbas commended the beneficiaries for fulfilling their loan repayments. He further announced that loan deductions for the newly distributed bicycles would commence after the Sallah festival, allowing staff to utilize their salaries for Ramadhan fasting and Eid celebrations.

 

Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor and the university management, describing the initiative as timely, especially given the rising transportation costs. Many pledged to make good use of the bicycles.

 

A total of 47 bicycles were distributed in this phase, while 100 bicycles were distributed in the first phase.
