A leading civil society coalition, the Civil Society-Scaling Up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN), has deepened its partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation following a high-level strategic meeting in Nigeria.
KANO FOCUS reports that the engagement, held on Tuesday, at the Foundation’s Nigeria Country Office, was led by CS-SUNN’s Executive Secretary, Sunday Okoronkwo, and featured discussions with the Global Growth and Opportunity PAC Director, Neil Watkins.
The meeting provided a platform for CS-SUNN to present evidence of the impact of Gates-funded interventions on Nigeria’s nutrition sector, particularly in strengthening financing, improving transparency, and enhancing accountability systems.
According to the organisation, it has evolved into a data-driven alliance comprising over 430 civil society groups across 30 states and the Federal Capital Territory. It highlighted key achievements, including a 30 per cent increase in financing for Nigeria’s National Multisectoral Plan of Action for Food and Nutrition through sustained budget advocacy.
CS-SUNN also disclosed that it had facilitated legislative commitments worth ₦13.36 billion to bolster nutrition financing and institutional frameworks, alongside the development of the country’s first digitised nutrition budget tracking platform to support evidence-based decision-making.
The coalition further outlined progress in maternal nutrition, noting the establishment of a national dashboard to track the procurement and distribution of micronutrient supplements. The tool, it said, is already improving coordination between federal and state actors while strengthening accountability.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining a decade-long partnership, which they described as evolving beyond a donor-recipient relationship into a strategic collaboration focused on driving systemic change in Nigeria’s nutrition ecosystem.
