NCDC presents Kano mission report, rated the state 47%

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has on Thursday presented it’s assessment of health security capabilities at the sub-national level titled Kano mission report.

KANO FOCUS reports that the Deputy Director, NCDC, Oyeladun Okunromade, presented the report at a joint evaluation report dissemination meeting held in Kano where the state ready score was rated 47 percent.

According to her, the National Action Plan for Health Security (NAPHS) was developed to address the gaps Identified with International Health Regulation (IHR) compliance in Nigeria and support resource mobilisation to implement priority activities outlined following the Joint External Evaluation (JEE).

“Following the midterm review and as a consequence of the revised JEE tool, it become evident that similar HR core capacities are required at the sub-national level and an assessment needed to be conducted to exceton pandemic preparedness across States in Nigeria using a validated tool and methodology.

“The need for this assessment became even more evident of the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria.”

In her capacity as the International Health Regulations National Focal Point the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) is convening state government Ministries and Agencies to assess and identity gaps in their health security core capacities.

The Kano assessment assessment was conducted between June 15 and 18, 2021.

“The adopted health security assessment tool for states in Nigeria was used as well as the WHO Benchmarks tool to validate the self-assessed scores. Overall, the ReadyScore for Kano state is 47%.

“We continue to look forward to the harmonious working relationship between all IHR implementing MDAs and partners,” she added.

She observed that”while it was generally noted that most of the technical areas assessed required a significant amount of work to attain sustained capacities, the state performed well in the areas of legislation and policy, immunization, and surveillance.

“Based on the assessment, technical areas that had the lowest scores include emergency preparedness, zoonetic diseases and food safety.

“Thus, improvements in these areas are crucial for Kano State’s health security, some key challenges identified across technical areas include laboratory, inter-sectoral collaboration, absence of an overarching legal framework for the state health security architecture among others.”

On his part the state commissioner of health Aminu Tsanyawa represented by the permanent secretary in the ministry Aishatu Musa expressed delight on the outcome of the report as Kano state scores is even higher than the national.

The commissioner added that the state government under the leadership of Abdullahi Ganduje attaches priority attention to health sector as one of the key sector of of human development.

According to him the state has allocated 17% of it’s budget to health subsector which is above 2001 Abuja declaration.

Kano develops 2025 AOP for education sector

To harmonise activities of agencies and parastatals under its supervision this year, the Kano state Ministry of education, in collaboration with development partners, organised a ‘3-Day Education Sector 2025 Annual Operational Plan (AOP) Harmonization.’

He urged participants to pay attention in order to comprehend what it is all about.

 

 

Director Planning, Research and Statistics in the state Ministry of education Malam Yushau Hamza Saleh said the workshop aim at supporting the development of 2025 AOP for the education sector.

 

Saleh added that the workshop also build the capacity of the sector planning teams on the preparation and utilisation of the AOP in implementing the annual budget and achieving the expected outcomes.

In a fervent Eid-el-Fitr sermon at Kofar Mata Eid Ground the Emir of Kano, His Highness Muhammadu Sanusi II, delivered a stern sermon prayer to individuals within Kano collaborating with external forces to destabilize the city’s peace and stability.

He decried such acts of betrayal and disloyalty, urging the populace to remain vigilant and united against these threats.

The Emir condemned those conspiring with outsiders to foment unrest in Kano, asserting that divine justice would prevail upon them. He said.

“There are people among us who have sold their conscience, joining hands with outsiders to threaten the peace of Kano. Let me remind them—Allah (SWT) will deal with them just as He dealt with those who betrayed Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in his time.”

These emphatic remarks come amid escalating political tensions, with reports of external interference in Kano’s traditional and governance structures.

The Emir urged citizens to dismiss provocations, remain steadfast in prayer, and stay alert to the machinations of traitors.

He emphasized that Kano’s strength lies in its unity and cautioned that anyone plotting against the state would face both divine and communal repercussions.

Concluding his sermon, the Emir invoked Allah’s protection over Kano and called on the people to remain resolute in faith and resistance.

He implored, “May Allah expose and disgrace those who conspire against our peace. May He strengthen the righteous and silence the voices of division.”

Emir Sanusi II Calls for Justice Over Killing of Kano Indigenes in Edo

The Emir of Kano, Khalifa Muhammad Sanusi II, has urged authorities to take decisive action against those responsible for the killing of Kano indigenes in Edo State, emphasizing that justice must be served to uphold peace and stability in the country.

Speaking during his Eid-el-Fitr sermon at the Kofar Mata Eid ground in Kano on Sunday, the Emir stressed the need for swift and firm measures to prevent further violence.

The gathering was attended by thousands of worshippers, including Kano State Governor and his Deputy.

While acknowledging statements from some government officials regarding the incident, the Emir insisted that mere condemnation was not enough.

He called for concrete steps to hold the perpetrators accountable, ensuring that such tragedies do not recur.

The Emir also addressed the youth in Kano, urging them to avoid any acts of retaliation, reminding them that revenge is prohibited in Islam.

He emphasized that peace and justice must be pursued through lawful means.
