YUMSUK Convocation: 80 students graduate with first class degrees

At least 80 students have graduated with first class degrees from Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano (YUMSUK).
Kano Focus reports that the vice chancellor of the university Professor Mustapha Ahmad Isah disclosed this while delivering a speech at the first, second and third combined convocation ceremony in Kano city.
Mr Isa also said 755 students graduated with second class upper; 1, 309 got lower second class, while 312 graduated with third class degrees out of a total of 2, 456 students.
The vice chancellor explained that 527 students were graduates from 2015/2016 session, 693 were from the 2016/2017 academic session, while 1, 236 graduated from 2017/2018 session.
Mr Isah added that the NUC recently increased the university’s admission quota by up to 3,000, hence raising the university’s admission capacity to 4,323 students from 1,323 previously.
In terms of achievement Mr Isa said through regular promotion exercises, the university has internally produced many professors and associate professors.
However the vice chancellor also appealed to the state government to build student hostels in its main campus.
“Our major challenge is lack of hostel accommodation for the students on campus. The benefit of providing students a befitting hostel accommodation are numerous:
“It will provide ability to absorb more students, especially from other states, thereby creating heterogeneity and increased IGR. Provision of hostels will also establish a proper university culture and environment,” he said.
Similarly, the Pro-chancellor of the university Alhaji Sule Yahya Hamma said the Kano state government as the proprietor of the institution has made huge investments in capital and recurrent expenditures including providing administrative and academic structures.
He said the state government had also undertaken various initiatives by expanding available resources to accommodate the rising number of students every session since the inception of the university.

The company reiterated its dedication to the steady supply of high-quality petroleum products to the Nigerian market, while aligning with national objectives of price stability and energy security.
It also urged the public to rely solely on official communications from the refinery for accurate and up-to-date information regarding its operations and pricing.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo on his emergence as the Deputy Governor of Kano State following his swearing-in on Tuesday.
KANO FOCUS reports that Garo was sworn in by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf after being nominated to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of former deputy governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described Garo’s appointment as a positive step toward strengthening unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State.
The President noted that the 48-year-old politician has held several public offices, including Chairman of Kabo Local Government Area and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs during the administration of former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. He also served as the APC governorship running mate in the 2023 general elections.
Tinubu commended Governor Yusuf for the appointment, urging political stakeholders in the state to rally behind the administration to ensure stability and progress.
He also called on the new deputy governor to work closely with the governor in delivering effective leadership and accelerating development in Kano State.
The President wished Garo success in his new role.

A dramatic political moment unfolded in Kano on Tuesday as former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje publicly acknowledged Muhammad Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano and Chairman of the Kano State Council of Emirs.

The moment has since been described by analysts as a “twist of fate” in Kano politics, where former rivalries appear to be giving way to cautious gestures of respect among key actors.
